During a September 13 press conference, Director of the National Gallery of Armenia (NGA) Arman Tsaturyan, Deputy Director of the NGA for Museum Management Naira Yeghiazaryan and Head of the Graphics Division of the NGA Marina Hakobyan talked about the events (exhibition, conference) dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of Hovhannes Aivazovsky.

Director of the National Gallery of Armenia Arman Tsaturyan stated that it is a great honor that the NGA is hosting the exhibition and that it is being held with the help of the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the Ambassadors of the Republic of Armenia in the Russian Federation and Italy.

“The NGA will showcase the works of Aivazovsky that will reveal him. Many know Aivazovsky as a marine artist, but he also has many graphic art works. This is truly an exceptional event since there will not only be an exhibition, but also a large-scale conference that will gather the directors of remarkable museums and experts from Theodosia, London, Moscow and Saint Petersburg,” Arman Tsaturyan noted.

Deputy Director of the NGA for Museum Management Naira Yeghiazaryan touched upon the popular and historic painting “Chaos”, which Aivazovsky had donated to the Pope, who had donated it to the Mekhitarist Congregation. According to Yeghiazaryan, the painting is a unique work of art that was brought to Armenia after long negotiations.

Talking about the conference, Head of the Graphic Works of the NGA Marina Hakobyan stated that the conference is truly unprecedented in terms of scale. The 21 speakers are not only Armenian specialists, but also international specialists.

Let us mention that the exhibition is called “Creation” and will run from September 15 to January 15.
