Mercedes-Benz and Bosch Test Self-Driving Taxis on the Streets of San Jose
Long-standing partners in the development of autonomous transport, Bosch and Mercedes-Benz, are testing the booking of trips in San Jose on self-driving taxis. In fact, this is the so-called ride-hailing, a short-term rental of a car with a driver, but it is driven by automation (the service employee for safety assurance is still in the car because those are experimental).

The service can be called an autonomous taxi, however, while the experiment is ongoing, its scope is limited to trips from the city center to its western part and back along San Carlos Street and Stevens Creek Boulevard. The number of local residents who can use the service is also limited. They have an application from the branch of Daimler Mobility AG. Through it, you can book a trip on an autonomous S-class. The project partners plan to work with clients the entire complex associated with the service: the order system, fleet management and maintenance. Finally, Mercedes-Benz explains, it is necessary to test how these taxis can be integrated into an intermodal mobility system, which also includes public transport and car sharing.
